Utilities Engineering

DB Sterlin has a significant understanding of the technical aspects of Gas, Telecommunications, Sewer, Water, and Power Utilities. We have successfully worked with many reputable large and small firms – many working on high-profile and well-known projects.

Gas

DB Sterlin offers a wide range of planning, design, permitting, and construction support services to our clients in the Natural Gas industry. Our team has knowledge of utility construction and operation, design, and constructability. Our engineers, project managers, designers, and technical specialists work together to provide a high level of service on every project. We provide engineering design services for Peoples Gas, as well as field support services including construction project management, construction inspection, administrative support, and operations & maintenance activities.

Telecommunications

DB Sterlin provides engineering design services for the installation of electrical and fiber conduit to proposed cellular antennas installed on new light poles across the City of Chicago. Clients include Mobilitie Management LLC and Crown Castle. The cellular antennas provide additional cellular signals in low coverage areas. In addition to conduit design, we have provided structural design services for associated new light poles installed on vaulted sidewalk slabs and bridge decks within the City of Chicago. We have expertise in civil and structural design and permitting requirements to assist our clients in completing these installations.

Water/Sewer

DB Sterlin staff has extensive experience in designing water, combined sewer, and separate sanitary and storm sewer systems for the City of Chicago Department of Water Management, as well as throughout the State of Illinois. Our staff also provides construction management services for both water and sewer projects within the City of Chicago. Our broad understanding of underground utility projects and the extensive coordination efforts required with other underground utilities, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders have allowed us to successfully complete a vast amount of work with these agencies. We also have proven experience in managing NPDES programs and meeting all state and federal regulations.

Power

DB Sterlin has knowledge and experience working with ComEd (Commonwealth Edison). Our team provides structural design services for transmission line and transmission tower replacements and installations. Our structural engineers have also provided foundation design for ComEd substations, a structural inspection of ComEd bridges, and design services for bridges and bridge removal projects. In addition, we are embarking on a program with ComEd for construction management quality control of underground conduit and manhole installations. Our staff also has experience in the design of conduit installation plans for various clients throughout the City of Chicago.

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)

SUE services assist in your design process to combine utility locating and data research to produce an accurate map depiction of existing underground utilities. DB Sterlin’s SUE services are performed in accordance with the American Society of Civil Engineers Standard 38-02 “Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data”. Our team has the experience to provide SUE services for Quality Levels B through D.
