Biennial and Fracture Critical Bridge Inspections
Chicago, Illinois
The scope of services for this project consisted of biennial and fracture-critical bridge inspections and preparation of bridge inspection reports for 379 bridges located throughout the City of Chicago. DB Sterlin performed detailed, visual inspections of approximately 60 to 80 structures each year in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards. The work included inspection of highway and railroad bridges, tunnels, culverts, pedestrian overpasses, and underpasses and the preparation and submittal of the required IDOT bridge inspection forms. In addition, a final report was issued for each structure that included a summary, recommended repairs, and inspection results including photographs of any significant deterioration that affected the bridge’s ratings. As needed, DB Sterlin also provided structural engineering services including bridge load ratings, on-call investigations, and special inspections.
All bridges that are open to the general public are required to be inspected every two years in accordance with the Federal Highway Administration National Bridge Inspection Standards. The project consisted of special inspections, fracture critical inspections, monitoring of critical structures, and inspection of electrical and mechanical systems.
