Right-turn Channelization and Traffic Signal Modifications
Cook County, Illinois
The scope of services for this project consisted of the Phase I Studies for the US 12/20/45 at Plainfield Road and Willow Springs Road at Plainfield Road for the Right-turn Channelization and Traffic Signal Modifications.
DB Sterlin performed the HCS analysis for both intersections of this project. HCS 2010 software was used for the analysis. DBS entered the traffic data, analyzed the outcome, and adjusted the phasing of each intersection to determine the impacts of adding the channelization. Using the results of the analysis an appropriate turn lane length was established for the proposed channelization. In addition, DB Sterlin performed a crash analysis on both intersections as part of this project. The crash data for a five-year period were tabulated and analyzed to determine crash patterns at each intersection. Using the results, countermeasures were recommended to improve safety. The findings were presented to IDOT District 1 in the form of a Crash Analysis. The existing Drainage Plan was developed as well for each intersection. This work involved reviewing existing plans, analyzing existing contours to determine drainage areas, and developing the EDP plans.
