Bridge Deck Resurfacing and Repair Projects address aging infrastructure and critical wear across key Illinois bridges. These initiatives enhance safety, improve durability, and reduce long-term repair costs while maintaining essential transportation links. The projects focus on three Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) bridges in District 1: IL 171 over Joliet Road in McCook, Cass Avenue over I-55 in Darien, and Cermak Road over the Des Plaines River in North Riverside. Phase II Engineering and Final Plan Preparation
DB Sterlin provided comprehensive engineering and construction support services, delivering targeted resurfacing, repairs, and maintenance to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout Illinois. The firm is leading Phase II engineering and final plan preparation for critical bridge deck resurfacing and repair projects on three Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) bridges in District 1: IL 171 over Joliet Road in McCook, Cass Avenue over I-55 in Darien, and Cermak Road over the Des Plaines River in North Riverside. These initiatives are part of IDOT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing bridge infrastructure for safe and reliable travel.
The project scope includes structural engineering plans for bridge deck scarification, latex-modified concrete deck overlays, expansion joint replacement, deck and approach slab repairs, bearing cleaning and painting, railing and fence repairs, slope wall and substructure concrete repairs, fiber wrap retrofits, steel beam repairs, and concrete sealing. In addition, DB Sterlin prepares special provisions, as well as detailed cost and time estimates, to ensure each project is completed efficiently and in full compliance with IDOT requirements.
Integrating Roadway and Traffic Design
In addition to structural work, DB Sterlin develops roadway design elements such as HMA approach slab transitions and detailed Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans that comply with IDOT and MUTCD guidelines. Plan coordination involves collaboration with multiple IDOT bureaus, including Construction, Design, Estimating, Materials, Traffic Arterials, Traffic Expressway, and Traffic Staging. Proposed detours and traffic management plans are reviewed and approved by the IDOT Detour Committee, ensuring safe, efficient travel during construction.
