FAP 71 (IL-54) Resurfacing Project – Dewitt County, IL – PTB 202 Item 30

DB Sterlin served as the prime consultant for the Phase II design of the 12-mile IL-54 Resurfacing Project, a pavement rehabilitation effort extending from IL-10 in Clinton to IL-48 through both rural and urban sections.

Engineering for Roadway Rehabilitation
The existing roadway exhibited surface distress requiring patching, along with mainline and shoulder resurfacing. Our team oversaw all design aspects of the project and coordinated with IDOT and other agencies. We prepared the final construction plans, specifications, quantity tabulations, cost estimates, and construction schedules. This work included typical sections, construction details, schedules of quantities (SOQ), roadway plan sheets, ADA ramp detail sheets, pavement marking and restoration plans, cross sections, and other ancillary plans.

Delivering Long-Term Improvements & Safety
Designed to enhance both roadway performance and user safety, improvements included repaving IL-54, replacing and upgrading guardrails, reconstructing four curb ramps to meet ADA requirements, and implementing supporting features such as pavement markings, erosion control, traffic control, and restoration. Safety and drainage evaluations based on high-water reports also informed additional operational and safety enhancements developed through coordination with IDOT and field investigations conducted by our design team.

Building for the Future
By improving pavement conditions, enhancing roadway safety features, and upgrading ADA accessibility, the IL-54 Resurfacing Project was designed to extend the service life of the corridor while improving safety and providing more reliable travel for the surrounding communities.
