Construction Management for Chicago Water Capital Improvement Program – Cook County, Illinois

The Chicago Department of Water Management’s Capital Improvement Program is a citywide initiative to upgrade and expand Chicago’s water distribution system, including the installation of new water mains and restoration of impacted sites. Responsibilities include verifying proper materials, tracking quantities, inspecting ADA ramps, monitoring traffic control for both vehicles and pedestrians, maintaining photographic records, and preparing daily inspection reports in accordance with IDOT documentation standards.

Program Coordination and Large-Scale Capital Improvements
The Capital Improvement Program covers installation of water mains by City forces and private contractors, supporting a long-term goal of 880 miles of new water mains over a 10-year period. DB Sterlin manages program-level coordination, including establishing procedures and controls, reviewing permits, overseeing repairs of breaks and leaks, and coordinating service line replacements. Program control systems—including ORION for document management, Primavera for scheduling, and Datastream/InforEAM for inventory tracking—are used to monitor progress and reporting across all departments.
